HOW TO SAY NO

So You Can Say YES to What Matters Most

Saturday May 2

9:00 am to 6:00 pm

St. Paul's

Episcopal Church

59 Court Street

Dedham, MA

“This workshop was transformational, both personally and professionally. Having bounced between accommodation and putting up walls, I learned something different. I learned how to say Yes to myself and the relationship, while finding a clearly defined and negotiated No that feels flexible, loving and connected.”
—Kathleen McGarry
Associate Director of Major Gifts
Smith College

"...fantastic. The holistic approach helped me to see how saying No starts in the body.  The practice helped me to learn to say No with conviction in a calm, assertive manner."
—David K.

To live the life you want or to create the world
you want, you must answer two questions:

What do you say Yes to? and What do you say No to?

The journey to one deep Yes is paved with a thousand Nos:
   • To requests and demands contrary to your interests
   • To behaviors that disrespect you and others
   • To policies and practices that are contrary to your vision

We often swallow our No out of fear or because we have not connected to

our deepest Yes. When we root ourselves in our Yes, our hearts remain open

even as we set clear boundaries. We bring more of ourselves and invite more

of the other into dialog and collaboration.

Come learn how to find your deep Yes and deliver a firm No with respect for

you and the relationship. Practice using situations from your life, and get

feedback to refine your delivery.

You will leave able to:

   •  Identify your default approach to saying No, its costs and benefits

   •  Use a simple formula to say No at home, at work, and in the world

   •  Set clean boundaries and stay in relationship

   •  Say Yes to what brings you most alive

You will learn about The Triple-A Trap:

Accommodate:
Saying Yes when we want to say No.
Attack:
Say No in ways that alienate the other person.
Avoid:
Doing nothing and hoping the problem will go away.

And a way out of this Trap using a simple three-step process:

Uncover Your Yes:
Connect to your core values.
Empower Your No:
Develop a backup plan.
Propose a Yes:
Show respect and propose a positive outcome.

"It has always been hard for me to say No without feeling guilty. Now I can say No and feel joyful about really listening to myself and saying Yes to what I am passionate about."

ManKind Project New England

"For me, the most outstanding aspect of this workshop was the presentation, itself.

Joseph and Guthrie presented with such a perfect balance and synergy between them

that it was as if they were one person.  I also found the content extremely useful

and easy to implement in my life as soon as I got home. I enthusiastically recommend

this workshop to anyone. I have found the content applicable to all aspects of my life."
